I’m a Gilmore Guys Girl, and you should be too

7 Feb

Podcasts have enjoyed a major spike in popularity, probably mostly due to the amazingness that is Serial (seriously, if you haven’t listened, do it. It’s both a fascinating true-crime story and a really interesting look at how professional journalism works).

If you’re looking for something a little lighter, though, I can’t recommend Gilmore Guys enough.

These two twenty-something dudes review one episode of the (incredible) Gilmore Girls show in each episode of their podcast. They are hilarious (I usually listen on headphones while walking around, and regularly am walking down the street laughing to myself like a crazy person), and you will find yourself wanting to reference things like “Chad Michael Mudface” and “nice chicken” in everyday conversation – which then proves to your friends just how deep down the pop-culture rabbit hole you’ve gone.

Also, they regularly go off into tangents about other shows, or get p-p-p-p-personal, which actually works really well for the format, because it just feels like you’re eavesdropping on two smart, funny (and cute, but sadly it’s an audio-only podcast) dudes talking about Gilmore Girls and their lives.

If you’re used to listening to things like This American Life, you’ll find this to be a big change. The production value is not the same – these guys do everything themselves, including singing their jingles live every time – and the structure is definitely not as tight, but it’s worth a shot. You may find Mondays and Wednesdays are your new favorite days.

On my desk? My great-grandma (Linda’s mom) – I never met her but Gramma gave me the picture for my birthday one year.
